FALKLANDS: THE SEARCH FOR PEACE

This film is held by the BFI (ID: 5327).

Synopsis

A specially extended edition of TV EYE on the Falklands, at the end of week six of the crisis. First, Peter Gill's report from New York looks at the attempts of British diplomats (in particular Sir Nicholas Henderson, British Ambassador to the US, and Sir Anthony Parsons, UK Permanent Representative to the UN) to influence opinion in Washington and at the United Nations. Julian Manyon then reports from Buenos Aires, where he interviewed Argentine President, General Galtieri, and Foreign Minister Costa Mendez. Llew Gardner chairs a studio discussion in London between Sir Anthony Kershaw MP (Chair, Select Committee on Foreign Affairs), Stanley Clinton Davis (Labour Spokesman on Foreign Affairs) and Russell Johnston (Liberal Party Spokesman on Foerign Affairs), who comment on the day's parliamentary debates on the Falklands crisis and react to the Galtieri's interview. Finally Peter Gill interviews Julian Manyon via satellite, following the abduction of the TV Eye team in Buenos Aires by an unknown group earlier that day.
