Synopsis
Describes a bauxite mine in British Guiana of the Demerara Bauxite Co.
Aerial view of Mackenzie, British Guiana. Visit of the Governor to the mine. Exterior and interior of a guest house, club, swimming pool, tennis courts. A community farm. A hospital. A workers village, Cockatara. A community store, the YMCA, the cinema. Echols High School. Primary school, art and woodwork classes, domestic science. Geological excavation with Guianans, a collection of samples, chemical analysis. Development of the mine, clearing land. Removal of `overburden' via water pressure and tractors, dynamiting, transportation by train to the mill for processing.
