Synopsis
Life in Malaya during the Emergency.
Jungle scenes during the Communist uprising. A rubber planter and his lifestyle in the Emergency. Tapping rubber and guarding against guerrilla attacks. Driving into Kuala Lumpur by armoured vehicle. Scenes in Kuala Lumpur. The Chinese and Malay populations of Kuala Lumpur. Planter, Tony Hooper, visits the Coliseum Bar - a popular place for white residents. Robert Lindsay, an intelligence officer visits the Maxwell Arms country club to play golf. English clubs are being opened to Asian members. Cricket at the Solonga Club. The High Commissioner Sir Gerald Templer at home with his family. Templar talks to the camera about his policy in Malaya. Footage of Templer's visit to outlying villages and schools to boost morale. The British policy of gathering the population into guarded compounds to deny the Communists succour is described. Tin mining - shots of dredging for tin deposits. Interview with the British manager of the concern, at home having tea with his wife and talking about the Emergency and productivity. British troops in the jungle, searching for Communists.
