TREE OF LIFE
This film is held by the BFI (ID: 304577).
Synopsis
ACTUALITY. Nigeria (or Belgian Congo?): Lord Leverhulme and his host and hostess, followed by three more European men, walk through a garden with palmtrees and a fullsize statue of a woman (15). (Gap) In front of a flight of stairs up to a verandah, an open car drives off with Leverhulme and three men, leaving the host and hostess behind (17). The camera approaches a white boat (about 300ft long, 3 masts, 1 funnel, flag with Union Jack) (61). On a passenger deck, Leverhulme and companion shake hands and bid farewell to the two other men who depart in a small flat-topped power-driven boat (79). Long travelling view from the river of scrubby hills and scattered low roofed houses (155ft).
Note: This material may have been untitled originally. The title, which refers to the palm tree, may have been `borrowed' from The TREE OF LIFE (1948) which is about Lever Brothers in Africa, though none of this material appears in that 1948 film.
