Synopsis
Outline of the Royal Family's tour of Southern Rhodesia in 1947.
Landscape. A plane lands at Salisbury; George VI and Princess Margaret step out. A second plane arrives; Queen Elizabeth and Princess Elizabeth are greeted by Sir John Kennedy (Governor) and Sir Godfrey Huggins (Prime Minister). A royal procession through the streets of Salisbury. The opening of Parliament by the King and Queen, they then return to Government house. The inspection of troops and `pioneers'. The investiture by the King, presenting awards (approx 400). The guests then go on to the station and by train to Hartley. Elizabeth is presented with a box. Wankie - Victoria Falls, informal shots of the family looking at the falls. An African boat with 40 paddlers bearing an African King, who meet George VI in mid stream. George VI gives a speech in Bulawayo, procession through the streets, public gardens. Chiefs are presented with medallions for peace made between warring tribes. A visit to the Rhodes memorial in Matapos.
