Synopsis

Ulster Unionist Leader, James Molyneux survived a debate in Northern Ireland by a majority of only three. He wants an elected assembly in Northern Ireland. Lord Callaghan and Sir Edward Heath tell the Commons Committee on Procedure how they think it could be improved. Labour's National Executive Council has endorsed the ammendments to Clause 4. Jeremy Hanley states that Labour councils are corrupt but John Gummer defends Birmingham City Council. David Waddington, the Governor of Bermuda has survived a vote to reduce his salary to £1 by only three votes. Special report. In 1993 the Government grant for hill sheep farmers was cut and was frozen in 1994. Farmer Henry Bainbridge and his neighbour the Duke of Westminster (Patron of the Hill Farmers Initiative) are lobbying Parliament for help. Nigel Evans MP (Con. Ribble Valley) agrees that special protection is needed for areas like his constituency. Professor Paul Whiteley (Sheffield University) says that in a survey, 63% of Conservative MP's think modern farming methods damage the countryside. Studio discussion follows.
