Synopsis

Views of traditional life in S. Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) to illustrate the tribal background to missionary work.

London - Thames scenes - Big Ben, buses over bridge, barges, workmen, loading ship from barge, liner `Warwick Castle' arriving in Cape Town. Train journey through the African countryside to Zambesi River. Ferryboat (canoe) across the river. Views of wildlife. Africans returning home - miners carrying luggage on shoulder poles; bride on her way to wedding. Scenes of village life near Zambesi; ploughing with oxen, hoeing, mothers and babies, grinding corn, winnowing, churning butter - churner smoking traditional clay pipe, villagers dancing, local musicians; school children playing games - teacher in suit and tie. Wireless operator in hut sending morse code messages to England. Africans and missionaries attending church services together (363ft). [16mm].
