Synopsis
INTEREST. A travelogue set in Western Uganda, bordering the Congo. View across the Ruwenzori Mountains. The hot, sulphur springs on the savannah plains (130-155). Contrast of dense jungle on mountain side. Bamboo growing in the jungle, used by natives for hunting. Natives of the Kiga, a Bantu speaking tribe. Native women carrying burdens on their heads. Boys carrying gourds (calabashes). A Kiga village. Travellers move on in search of a true pigmy tribe. A village of mixed pigmy strain, dance of welcome by children (499-540). Continuing through bush, encounter another mixed group who also perform frenzied dance of welcome (578-657). At last, a village of true pigmies is found. (690-830) size compared to an average man. Back among the Kiga's, a native wedding ceremony is witnessed (839-1220). Girls bringing wedding gifts. Ceremonial dance (915-1040). After dance, women of bride's family lead bride carried on a covered stretcher to bridegroom's house. He helps bride from the stretcher and leads her into her new home. The bridegroom then comes out and joins relatives and friends in drinking native beer (1229 ft).
