DEATH ON THE ROCK: THE INQUIRY

This film is held by the BFI (ID: 519111).

Synopsis

A look at the report produced by Lord Windlesham and Richard Rampton QC on the programme THIS WEEK[28/04/88] about the shooting of three IRA suspects in Gibraltar by the SAS. The programme aroused much criticism from the government, the press and the public in its implication that the SAS had murdered the three people without good reason. Michael Mates MP and Chairman of Defence Select Committee and Andrew Neill, editor of the Sunday Times both believe that the THIS WEEK team misrepresented the facts. They face the editor of the original programme, Roger Bolton and Lord Thomson, Chairman of the IBA, who defend their position. Incidentally the Windlesham/Rampton report vindicated Bolton and Lord Thomson entirely.
