Synopsis
The work of the African Messenger service in Northern Rhodesia. Looks at a typical day's duties of a chief messenger and his five colleagues working for the district commissioner. i) The first messenger drives a lorry full of cement to the site of a new bridge and reports on the progress in its construction. ii) Another messenger takes over guard duties at the local jail. iii) A local headman asks the third messenger to help him capture the village troublemaker who has attacked another man. iv) The fourth messenger helps another headman to get rid of the buffalo who have trampled over his crops. v) The last messenger helps take a man, who has been injured by a falling tree, to hospital.
