Synopsis
Study of Singapore's first general election.
Electioneering posters for the first election to Assembly with an elected majority. `The Vote Is Secret'. Canvassing. The candidates, David Marshall (Labour Front) addresses workers in a square. Other candidates address an open-air meeting. Election officers go to the polling stations. People queue to vote. People wait to hear the result outside the Victoria Memorial Hall, the ballot boxes are taken in. David Marshall and Lee Kwan Yoo (People's Action Party). The Governor, Sir John Nicholls and the 1st Minister stand on the steps of Government House. Marshall presents ministers to the people in the middle of the city. The First Assembly of the new constitution. An oath is taken by Marshall in the Assembly. The Governor arrives.
