Synopsis

Recruitment film for the Royal Navy, following the experiences of a new cadet.

A 16 year old boy on a council estate, wondering what to do with his life, sees a Royal Navy commercial and decides to enlist; 30 months later, training as a weapons engineer at Portsmouth, he prepares for his first foreign trip on a Type 42 destroyer (D.118 - HMS Coventry). His work includes checking a torpedo fixed to a Lynx helicopter during a naval exercise. Voyage to Singapore: engine repair exercise on route. After sightseeing, the ship proceeds to Hong Kong, where a combat exercise takes place on the way (our cadet is seen fixing Sea Dart missiles). Replenishment at sea - jackstay transfer from Fleet Replenishment Ship Resource. Recreation onboard. Arrival at Hong Kong: shore leave, food, entertainment before setting out to sea again. "Joining the Navy was the best decision I ever made... I know I made the right choice."
