Synopsis
A short film on the expansion of the Royal Indian Navy in the 1930s in both shipping and personnel strength.
Heavy (RN ?) warships at sea; the sloop HMIS Indus in the pool of London (by Tower Bridge); a parade; new recruits issued with kit, in training (drill, knots, bayonets, gun drill, mechanical training) and at leisure (HMS Dalhousie, the hulk used for training Boys, moored at Bombay); taking soundings, cleaning anchor-chain, launching boat (man overboard drill); firing gun, launching depth charge. Closes with film of 2 ship launchings, and another parade. [In the absence of a translation of the soundtrack, this synopsis is of necessity provisional and tentative].
Notes
Summary: according to the captions to a set of matching stills (DPH: [MOI] FLM 206 - 219), the ship launching was performed by Mrs Amery, wife of the Secretary of State for India. In addition to the Amerys, VIPs present include Sir Maurice and Mr John Denny and Lieutenant R Chatterjee (RIN).
