Synopsis
I. Anti-submarine helicopters , operating from frigate, are seen in action: mortars and torpedoes are used.
II. German soldiers of the 84th Panzer Battalion train with British troops at Castle Martin in Wales. The locals welcome them. Soldiers stand by tank named "Winston".
III. The new Alvis Stalwart all terrain vehicle is seen in action: "the army has expressed an interest in it".
IV. Hovercraft research on the Clyde: new design has side walls projecting into water for extra stability. Also seen is the "Skimmer", Britain's first private helicopter. "Cost: around 60".
V. Army Captain Fuller goes to the US to organise outward bound training for the Peace Corps: cadets seen in action swinging from trees, canoeing etc.
VI. Designers including Kate Jacques and Peter Gourd design new stamps the 7th Parliamentary Conference 1961 and for the Post Office centenary.
VII. The De Havilland Trident is unveiled.
VIII. Powerboats take part in 150-mile Channel race: "Thunderbolt" wins, "Yo Yo" is second.
IX. New community centre opens in Hong Kong in June 1961. Facilities include playground, shops, showers, and activities include dance group etc.
X. Tenth anniversary of the Colombo Plan celebrated at dinner at Lancaster House. Prince Philip gives speech praising the plan.
XI. Football: FA Cup Final 1961 won by Tottenham Hotspur, who achieve the double. First game of 61-62 season is a friendly - Spurs v Rest of England (Spurs win 3-2).
