Synopsis

I. Guildhall welcome ceremony for the Queen and Prince Philip on their return from their 3-month tour of Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. Among those present are Macmillan, Duncan Sandys, the Lord Mayor of London and Commonwealth representatives. Queen inspects troops in dress uniform.

II. The commissioning of HMS Leander, the sixth vessel to bear this name. Ship's bell. The Belfast shipyards of Harland and Wolff, where she was built: 80,000-ton tanker seen under construction - massive engine tested.

III. The 109th Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race; Oxford win. The Oxford stroke, American Duncan Spencer, is interviewed.

IV. Reginald Maudling presents his 1963 Budget, the theme of which is 'expansion without inflation'; shots of newspaper headlines and the Palace of Westminster.

V. For centuries a centre for linen, Northern Ireland is now a centre for man made fibres. The Acrilan factory for Chemstrand Ltd under construction. Terence O'Neill, Northern Ireland PM, opens ICI's Terylene factory at Kilroot, Carrickfergus; scenes of production, including weaving.

VI. Duncan Sandys and his wife, on 4-month tour of Africa, visit Zanzibar and shakes hands with dignitaries. The island's constitutional progress is discussed with the Sultan; general election announced. On to Uganda for talks with Milton Obote, then to Tanganyika. In Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta and others discuss internal self-government.

VII. Mnster, West Germany: the 15/19 Hussars are visited by their honorary colonel, Princess Margaret. Parade in the rain; Saladins and Saracens drive past. Medals presented; regimental ball.

VIII. Rugby Union: England beats Scotland 10-8.
