Synopsis
A coordinated attack takes place on Japanese positions along the Pindale to Mahlaing road north of Meiktila. Burma, involving artillery, North American B-25 Mitchell bombers and Republic P-47 Thunderbolts
Smoke and dust rise in a long line along a road. More bomb strikes can be seen. Air bursts shells from artillery barrages explode over a white Buddhist pagoda in the distance. Smoke and dust rise from the explosions. A Republic Thunderbolt dive bombs. Another plane dive bombs. Six North American B-25 Mitchell bombers fly over in two formations of three. A large explosion from their bombs. Smoke fills the whole horizon. Thunderbolts dive bomb. Several more dive bombing runs. An explosion.
Notes
In the first half of March 1945 17th Indian Division captured the key strategic centre of Meiktila. There then followed a period of consolidation aimed at preventing Japanese forces in the area withdrawing southwards. This film documents part of that consolidation.
