JAPANESE CONSTRUCTED ROAD IN ARAKAN (2/4/1945)

Synopsis

The Japanese Army constructed a road through the Arakan, Burma, from the An Valley to Taungup and Prome (Pyay), south of Mandalay; after the road was cut off by XV Indian Corps Japanese defences were inspected and the road used for British Army transportation.

Long shot of the road in the distance. The road cuts into the hillside; a motorcyclist rides along the road. Two jeeps drive along the road. Looking down on the corner of the road as a lorry passes. Bamboo has been used to reinforce some of the banking on corners on the road. Traffic passes along a jungle-lined section of road. Another close-up of the bamboo reinforcements. The road splits around a section which contained mines laid by the Japanese. A temporary memorial is attached to a tree for the British and Indian soldiers killed at Tamandu Pass; a British soldier stands and reads the names.
