25-POUNDERS AT PINKAN (6/2/1945)

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 23).

Synopsis

Gunners of the Royal Artillery take up position by the village of Pinkan, Burma, and prepare to shell Japanese positions.

Ordnance QF 25-pounder field guns of 315th Battery, 130th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, are moved into position. The gun is removed from its carrier and is set up. It is manhandled into the firing pit after the gun platform is dug into the emplacement. Vehicles move up to Pinkan.

Notes

Dopesheet gives the unit as 150th Field Regiment attached to 29th Brigade, 36th Division. However, 150th Field Regiment was not attached to 36th Division, so it would seem more likely this is a mistake on the part of the cameraman and the correct unit is 130th Field Regiment.

At this point 36th Division (commanded by Major-General F W Festing) was part of Northern Combat Area Command (NCAC) under the American Lieutenant-General Daniel Sultan. NCAC was a multi-national force comprising Mars Task Force (American and Chinese) and two Chinese Armies (New First Army and New Sixth Army) in addition to 36th British Division.
