Synopsis

The Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia Command, Lord Louis Mountbatten, meets troops of 2nd Division.

A jeep marked with the insignia of 2nd Division (crossed keys) passes camera followed by a large Dodge Command Car carrying Mountbatten and a senior officer (Major-General Nicholson?). Mountbatten gets out and is shown around an area with a number of pagodas in the background. Mountbatten addresses troops. Mountbatten leaving. Mountbatten, standing in the back of his Command Car, looks through a pair of binoculars. A senior officer holds a map. Mountbatten's car passes a signpost marked 'Sadaung' and gives the distance to Sagaing as 27 miles. Mountbatten's car turns off the road, presumably having arrived at his destination. A large crowd of troops, some wearing Scottish tam o'shanters.

No dopesheet survives for this film so details as to location, date, unit, etc are unclear. See also JFU 236, which probably shows the same visit. Reference to Sadaung and Sagaing means this footage may be related to Mountbatten's visit to Mandalay, after its fall in late March 1945.
