Synopsis

After a service of thanksgiving in Rangoon to mark the end of the war in Europe the troops of 26th Indian Division stage a march past.

Officers arrive by jeep. March past; the cameraman has positioned himself in the middle of the road and the detachments of troops and sailors pass him on both sides. Troops on parade. Major-General Chambers, commander of 26th Indian Division and Military Governor of Rangoon, inspects the assembled troops. Ordnance QF 25-pounder field guns fire a salute; one shot results in a bright flash at the muzzle of the gun. Close-up of a gun team in their textbook drill positions. A 25-pounder. The saluting base for the march past with Chambers and the divisional padre. Brigadier Lauder, commander of 36th Brigade, leads the march past. Chambers taking the salute with troops passing in the foreground.

Notes

Rangoon was reoccupied after an unopposed amphibious landing (Operation Dracula) by 26th Indian Division on 3 May 1945.
