Synopsis
The visit of Lieutenant-General Sir William Slim to 2nd Division area at Ondaw, Burma.
Lieutenant-General Sir William Slim, commander of 14th Army, visits the 2nd Division area HQ. He also visits the 4th Indian Brigade accompanied by Lieutenant-General Sir M G N Stopford, commander of XXXIII Corps. They meet Major-General C G G Nicholson (commanding 2nd Division) and visit the 6th Field Ambulance Unit and are given a tour by Lieutenant-Colonel Smalley. Slim addresses the men of the 1st Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers (4th Infantry Brigade) at Kyaukse. He goes past the graves of British soldiers killed at Kyaukse fighting the Japanese and takes his leave of Lieutenant-Colonel Masterton Smith then drives off in a jeep.
Notes
Ondaw was occupied without a fight by 2nd Division on 24 January 1945.
