BLOWING SPAN OF THE PEGU BRIDGE (3/8/1945)
This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 287).
Synopsis
The single remaining span of the Pegu Bridge, originally blown by the British in 1942, is demolished by engineers of the 94th Faridkot Field Company (Indian State Forces).
View of the single remaining span of the Pegu Bridge; a local boat passes. Various views of engineers placing demolition charges. Wideshot showing the bridge. A sudden explosion envelopes the bridge in smoke and debris rains down into the river. When the smoke has cleared the span is completely destroyed with only a small portion still anchored to the far bank. Major Davies, commander of the 94th Faridkot Field Company, looks at the wreckage with other officers
Notes
'Indian State Forces' denotes the fact that this unit was raised by an Indian princely state, rather than by the British government of India.
Additional coverage by Sergeant Abbott. When taken in conjunction with JFU 288, this film provides a good illustration of demolition techniques. See related items.
