Synopsis

In the ruins of factories on Akyab Island (Sittwe), Burma, enough material and equipment was found by the Madras Sappers and Miners of 325th Field Park Company, Indian Engineers, 25th Indian Divsion, XV Indian Corps, to produce an improvised field foundry to manufacture parts for the repair of machinery.

The Madras Sappers and Miners construct an improvised foundry on Akyab Island. A steamroller requiring a vital component was brought to this foundry and quickly repaired for the reconstruction of roads on Akyab Island. The process of founding a part from smelting the metal and preparing the mould, through casting of the part to the preparation of the finished article for fitting to the steamroller is demonstrated.
