Synopsis

Civilian internees, freed from Japanese captivity at Tavoy (now Dawei) in Lower Burma, arrive by air at Mingaladon airfield near Rangoon before being transferred to hospital.

An RAF Douglas Dakota transport aircraft lands at Mingaladon. A number of lorries, some marked as ambulances, drive out to meet the aircraft. Civilian internees alight from the aircraft. Civilians get into the back of a lorry. Close-up of a Mr Holden of Chorley in Lancashire. Close-up of Mr C A Fisher. Two children in the back of the lorry look at the camera. Three lorries drive away from the aircraft to take the freed internees to hospital.

Notes

According to the dopesheet Mr Holden was held at Tavoy for two and a half years with 99 others, of whom 11 died of malnutrition. Mr Fisher, who can be identified by his Chinese-style straw hat, is identified as having been the prewar superintendent of the Rangoon Police, and hailed from Strood in Kent.
