Synopsis
British troops of 19th Indian Division begin to fight their way into the northern part of the city of Mandalay, Burma.
Troops from the 8th Battalion 12th Frontier Force Regiment, 2nd Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment and Lee medium tanks of the 150th Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps, enter the north of the city of Mandalay. Gurkhas pause at a fence line and then cross an open yard; Lee medium tanks of 254th Indian Tank Brigade and troops make their way into the city, street by street. British troops offered a drink by the local Burmese. Mortars and Ordnance BL 5.5-inch medium guns are fired onto enemy positions and Fort Dufferin, the Japanese HQ, is attacked.
Notes
Infantry seen in this film are of 98th Indian Infantry Brigade.
Mandalay, Burma's second city, was an objective of great importance due to its prestige value and logistical connections, and was also the site of a large Japanese supply dump.
