NO. 5 COMMANDO ROUNDING UP JAPANESE TROOPS AT FANLING (16/9/1945)

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 381).

Synopsis

British troops of No. 5 Army Commando round up Japanese troops at Fanling, 20 miles from Kowloon, before putting them on a train to an internment camp.

Wide shot shows Japanese troops on a railway platform; a sign reading 'Fanling' can be made out on the right edge of frame. Close-up of 'Fanling' sign in English and Chinese. Japanese troops boarding train. Alternative angle taken from the train showing men boarding.

Notes

Dopesheet describes the contents of 3 rolls (300 feet) of film, but only the last rolls appears to have survived.

The dopesheet also remarks, quite tellingly, that only a proportion of the Japanese troops were being disarmed. The rest were being allowed to retain their arms in order to protect themselves against the Chinese.
