GOVERNOR OF BURMA AT CIVIC HALL, RANGOON (17/10/1945)

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 407).

Synopsis

The newly returned Governor of Burma, Sir Reginald Dorman-Smith, attends a civic reception in Rangoon and makes a speech.

Interior City Hall, Rangoon; Dorman-Smith makes a speech. Burmese (civil officials?) applauding vigorously. Dorman-Smith and entourage walking through the building (framerate here appears to be unintentionally too slow, and so the party seem to walk very quickly). Cars departing. Civilians watching from outside the hall; the area is strewn with Union Jack bunting. Pan along line of civilians outside City Hall. More cars leaving. Interior; Dorman-Smith speaking. More shots of the hall and of the audience. Some very dark and unusable footage of Dorman-Smith arriving in the hall. Shots of Dorman-Smith speaking and of the audience.

Notes

Dopesheet for JFU 406 names a Mya Bu (presumably the former Chief Justice of that name) as having headed the reception committee, as well as 'U Ba Clay' [Ko Lay?], apparently a former mayor of Rangoon, a 'U S O Nyin' and a Colonel B Rennick.
