Notes
When this film was shot British and Indian troops were arriving in force in Indonesia. They encountered a country home to an increasingly aggressive popular nationalism, a large number of interned Europeans and Eurasians expecting to resume their pre-war status, and tens of thousands of Japanese who had surrendered but were still armed. For other examples of slogans and graffiti, see related items.
