Synopsis
British tanks and troops move forward to capture a Japanese position just north of Mandalay, Burma.
19th Indian Division take a Japanese strongpoint after shelling of Japanese positions. A Buddhist pagoda on Monastery Hill overlooking Mandalay burns fiercely. 8th Battalion 12th Frontier Force Regiment troops as well as tanks approach the pagoda along a road, surge forward and take the position. Troops move forward through smoke. The attack is followed by an airstrike on the walls and compound inside the pagoda. A Thunderbolt bombs and strafes enemy positions.
Notes
The Frontier Force infantry seen in this film were part of 98th Indian Infantry Brigade.
Mandalay, Burma's second city, was an objective of great importance due to its prestige value and logistical connections, and was also the site of a large Japanese supply dump.
