Synopsis
Lord Louis Mountbatten, Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia, arrives in Rangoon, Burma, for a tour of inspection.
Mountbatten gets out of a staff car with Lieutenant-General Sir Montagu Stopford, the head of Burma Command. West African troops of 4th West African Infantry Brigade present arms. Mountbatten at the salute by a flagpole decorated with a chinthe, or mythical Burmese guardian creature, the emblem of 12th Army. Mountbatten's staff car, escorted by military police jeep, draws to a halt at 552 Indian Infantry Workshops, Indian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Mountbatten is met by Colonel Fisher, 12th Army's Deputy Director Mechanical Engineering. Close-up of Mountbatten speaking to an officer. He inspects a radio under repair. Mountbatten and Stopford watch a jeep being assembled by a team of Indian Engineers. Mountbatten addresses Indian troops. Mountbatten's motorcade arrives at a Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve Coastal Forces base. He salutes a guard. Mountbatten inspects the guard, escorted by Captain K S Lyle, Naval Officer in Charge Rangoon. He meets senior officers. He goes aboard a (probably Fairmile B class) Harbour Defence Motor Launch, ML 437, and is piped aboard. Mountbatten addresses sailors from the deck of ML 437.
