The village of Patheingyi burns fiercely after an air strike and large columns of smoke rise into the air. British troops are sheltering along an embankment at the side of a rough road. Several buildings in Patheingyi can be seen well ablaze. A large railway siding and marshalling yard show signs of massive bomb damage. Destroyed trains litter the area. The north corner of Fort Dufferin, which is being used as a storage depot by the Japanese, shows signs of the bombardment it has taken from British artillery and planes. Mandalay buildings show signs of bomb and artillery damage. Another outlying village burns.
Notes
Mandalay, Burma's second city, was an objective of great importance due to its prestige value and logistical connections, and was also the site of a large Japanese supply dump. Operations for the capture of Mandalay were extensively covered by other British Army cameramen. See related items.
