Synopsis

British troops of 4th Indian Infantry Brigade proceed from Kyaukpyu on Ramree Island, Burma up the Thanzit River.

Indian troops sit on the deck of HMS Roebuck looking at the camera; most of them are wearing turbans. The White Ensign flutters in the breeze. Royal Navy men at one of their gun stations. Troops and sailors look to shore; the sailors wear anti-flash hoods and another ship can be seen in following the one that the camera is on. More men lined up next to an Ordnance QF 2-pounder (a Vickers 'pom pom') gun. Two signal flags are raised up the rigging. Two of the ship's larger guns are raised. A line of Indian troops are seated on the deck. Indian troops in turbans and lifebelts stand on deck. The troops begin to disembark onto smaller boats.

Notes

4th Indian Brigade (26th Indian Division) was landed on 13 March 1945, and 2nd Battalion 13th Frontier Force Rifles established a roadblock on the 15th. This led to the destruction of three Japanese light tanks and the capture of two more, along with a 75mm gun and the dispersal of the accompanying infantry. After this 4th Indian Brigade advanced southwards, reaching the Tanlwe Chaung by 22 March 1945.
