TROOPS DISEMBARK FROM HMS ROEBUCK TO LCI (13/3/1945)

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 70).

Synopsis

HMS Roebuck anchors on the Thanzit River (Burma) to disembark troops of 4th Indian Infantry Brigade into LCIs (Landing Craft Infantry).

British troops cover the deck of HMS Roebuck. They begin to disembark with their supplies. The LCI (Landing Craft Infantry) they get onto unties and begins to pull away. The deck of HMS Roebuck still looks crowded. An LCA (Landing Craft Assault) sails past to port. Troops board another LCA which then departs with the cameraman on board. The crew of HMS Roebuck wave as the LCA leaves.

Notes

4th Indian Brigade was landed on 13 March 1945, and 2nd Battalion 13th Frontier Force Rifles established a roadblock on the 15th. This lead to the destruction of three Japanese light tanks and the capture of two more, along with a 75mm gun and the dispersal of the accompanying infantry. After this 4th Indian Brigade advanced southwards, reaching the Tanlwe Chaung by 22 March 1945.
