Synopsis
Lieutenant-General W J Slim leads a flag unfurling ceremony at inside Fort Dufferin, Mandalay, Burma, after British troops forced the Japanese out of the city and the fort complex.
Lieutenant-General Slim inspects a line of British troops and chats to several of them including two women in uniform at the end of the line up. Slim leaves in a jeep and the road is lined with cheering troops. A long column of men, three abreast, marches off holding their rifles. British troops march into Fort Dufferin, over a bridge and moat, before entering a shadowed tunnel. More troops arrive along the road which is lined with Sikh and Gurkha soldiers. Slim arrives in his jeep preceded by a motorcycle outrider. An officer salutes General Slim and the general climbs the steps to a wooden platform where he unfurls the Union flag. He leads the men in two cheers. The officers present line up for the camera. Slim and the officers walk off to cheers from the men and drive off in jeeps. Troops march away as the Union flag flies in the background.
