Synopsis
The events in Karachi and in Delhi around Independence Day, 15 August 1947.
On the eve of independence, Jinnah (the new Governor General of Pakistan) and Lord and Lady Mountbatten arrive at the Constituent Assembly in Karachi where Lord Mountbatten makes an address which includes a message of goodwill from the King. Jinnah replies in similar vein. Later they are seen at the Governor General's house. In Delhi, with the approach of midnight, both the President and the Premier (Nehru) are seen addressing the Constituent Assembly. In Karachi on the morning of Independence Day itself, Jinnah and the Cabinet are sworn in, while in Delhi, Mountbatten is sworn in as Governor General, who then in turn swears in Nehru and his Cabinet. Lord and Lady Mountbatten then join in with the celebrations on this "day of goodwill".
