Synopsis
(92D) June 1937: laying foundation stone for new Hulda Kibbutz. Crowds arrive for ceremony; Palestinian 'fellahin' at ceremony; speeches by unknown settlers who read a scroll outlining the purpose of the kibbutz which is then buried in the foundation stone.
(105A) September 1937: Celebrating the end of the construction of the Tel Aviv-Haifa Road. Road under construction and Arab workers laying down stones. Shots of completed road (some from inside car travelling along road).
(106A) September 1937: Inauguration of Tel Aviv-Haifa Highway. Opening ceremony, flags and banners, Keith Roach, Governor of Haifa, arrives and shakes hands with Jews and Arabs. Opening banquet and speeches.
(108B) October 1937: "After train crash near Ras-el-Ein" (ie Rosh Haayin). Wrecked engines and coaches, repair crane in action. Group of Palestine Police resting. Shot from repair train passing wreckage. (This collision was the product of a guerrilla attack by Arabs during the Arab Rebellion.)
(110C) October 1937: Fighting Malaria in Cheffar Emek. Views of valley and swamps. Settlers preparing to go into swamps; settlers in boats and wading, spraying powder in swamps. Settlers removing their boots, women washing.
(115B) November 1937: High Commissioner visits Nazareth. High Commissioner Wauchope approaches and enters church in Nazareth; Wauchope leaves church (This is the memorial service for Lewis Andrews, District Commissioner for Galilee, murdered by Arab guerrillas in Nazareth, October 1937).
(119D) December 1937: convention of Jewish Agency about Karen Hayesod (Jewish National Fund). Interior of hall; faces in audience. Kaplan, Grinbaum and Moshe Sharett (members of Jewish Agency Executive) speak in Hebrew. (Sound quality very poor).
