Synopsis

(209C) February 1940: "War comes to Palestine", fitting gas masks for children in Tel Aviv.

(No newsreel no; Box 719-21) Spring 1940: "Civilians alert yourselves", ARP activities in Tel Aviv, building shelters.

(1B/second series) July 1944: a small group of Jews who were exchanged by Germans from the Balkans and who have travelled across Europe and Asia Minor by train arrive in Palestine where relatives greet them. They are taken to Athlit Settlement Centre.

(No newsreel no; Box 668) Exact date unknown; late 1930's: Gymkhana and 'silly-sports' day. The Englishman relaxing abroad at the hey-day of Empire.

(86D) May 1937: Parade to celebrate the coronation of George VI, High Commissioner Wauchope on podium takes the salute, troops in Palestine and from Arab Legion parade.

(No newsreel no; Box 303-7) Exact date unknown, early 1940's: Lydda, horse racing event.

(176A) April 1939: After the failure of the London Conference at the beginning of the year, Ben Gurion and Weizmann return to Palestine at Tel Aviv. The next month saw the publication of the Government's White Paper severely limiting Jewish immigration and land purchase.

(104C) September 1937: At the newly opened Jewish harbour of Tel Aviv (built to get round the Arab Strike of April-October 1936) the first Ford car is unloaded and imported.

(2F/second series) Early 1945: Weizmann spent most of the war out of Palestine in Britain and the USA. Soon after his return to Palestine he is welcomed at Nahalal. Hebrew banners say "Welcome". He inspects a parade of Jewish Defence Police.
