Synopsis

Arrival of RAF Hastings. Visit to South Korea during Korean War: take off in Auster, aerial views of devastated Seoul, flying over River Imjin and landing at Fort George (HQ of 1st Commonwealth Division). (June 1953)

Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force board and Spitfire Mk 24 planes (with Griffin engine). Squadron pilots include Flight Lieutenant Geoff Cairns (later Air Vice Marshal) and Harry Chang (later Boeing 747 pilot with Singapore Airlines). HKAAF flag at RAF Sek Tong. Tai Mo Shan mountain at dawn. Meteorological briefing. Spitfires prepared for air-to-air shooting practise (20mm Hispano Suiza cannon). Flying Officer Smith and Flight Sergeant Bushy. Amateur film shot by Flight Lieutenant Denis "Nick" Nichols records visit with Air Commodore Charles Field (Air Officer Commanding Hong Kong) to South Korea to inspect the army communication flight and the Royal Artillery Air Observation Flight at Fort George during the Korean War, scenes when training officer to the Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force (HKAAF) from September 1954 to May 1955, and air displays in Great Britain after his return to RAF Training and Fighter Command in August 1955.

Summary: Duxford Spitfire Mk 24 (serial VN 485) appears in this film.

Camera: Nichols bought second-hand Bell & Howell Sports 8mm camera after his arrival in Hong Kong in December 1952; film took eight weeks to be processed in Australia and returned.
