BALTIMORES, BOSTONS AND SPITFIRES OF THE RAF IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: MGH 689).
Synopsis
Unedited colour material shot by an official RAF cameraman of Baltimores, Bostons and Spitfires, including air to air footage and some shots of Malta.
The first sequence is of a Baltimore squadron in N Africa, probably Algeria in 1943, including air to air shots. There are then shots taken in Malta mixed in with the next sequence, shots of the Grand Harbour, ships in the harbour, long shots of Valletta and shots of the poor and/or the homeless bomb victims of Valletta. There are shots of Bostons and Spitfires taking off, possibly from RAF Lucca on Malta. There are shots of Bostons on the ground and air-to-air shots flying over what is probably Malta. Unfortunately much of this material, especially the first 200 feet, is marred by soft focus but the colour quality is good throughout.
Notes
Remarks: some interesting colour material here, especially the air-to-air shots, spoilt in places by soft focus.
