Synopsis

Home movie of HMS Decoy and Delight on the China Station, visiting Shanghai and Swatow, in the summer of 1938.

In the summer of 1938 Captain Garnett (then Lieutenant) was temporarily appointed to the Destroyers HMS Decoy and Delight. This film begins with much activity on board HMS Delight taking stores on board. There are several unidentified cargo and passenger ships in the harbour and a lightship at sea. There are shots on board HMS Decoy ploughing through the seas. There are shots of the destroyer arriving at Shanghai and of a Short flying boat taking off and bi-planes over the city. There are some shots of Swatow where some monkeys come aboard the ship. There is depth charge practice at sea and the final shots are of HMS Tamar, the veteran receiving ship, at Hong Kong.
