I. 'BURMA.' Burmese forestry workers cut teak on the banks of the Chindwin River. Teak planking is loaded onto the back of waiting Dodge soft-skinned vehicles. Indian Army engineers construct large wooden river barges on the banks of the Chindwin. Brief footage shows the construction processes with teak planking being nailed onto wooden formers. A newly constructed river barge is launched without ceremony by the Indian construction crews. Elsewhere, Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) personnel prepare sacks of rice for an air-dropping operation in support of hungry Burmese villagers cut off by the Japanese destruction of roads and bridges on their withdrawal. An RCAF C-47 Dakota transport aircraft starts its engines and is later shown taking off. Aerial footage shows RCAF C-47 Dakota "Salomi" in flight. Film footage taken in the interior of a Dakota's cargo hold in flight shows RCAF personnel throwing rice sacks out of the open cargo door. Burmese civilians wait for rice to be distributed.

II. 'NEWS FROM ENGLAND.' Panoramic footage shows the recently completed Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District. A small child presents Queen Elizabeth with a bouquet of flowers during the reservoir opening ceremony, also attended by King George VI. A stonemason (unidentified) involved in the construction of the reservoir talks to the King. King George VI opens the water valves of the reservoir which was designed to supply the towns of Derby, Sheffield, Nottingham and Leicester with water. Water slowly fills the reservoir. HMS Hercules is launched (minus her island superstructure) down the slips of the Vickers-Armstrong shipyards on the Tyne River. Brief footage shows an experimental floating runway (Lily) moored in the Firth of Clyde. A Fleet Air Arm (FAA) Fairey Swordfish torpedo aircraft carries out a landing test on the undulating runway. The Swordfish takes off with the aid of Rocket Assisted Take Off Gear (RATOG). Aircraft are shown on static display at a farewell exhibition held in honour of the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) held in Maidenhead (Berkshire). Aircraft include a Supermarine Walrus flying boat, Handley Page Halifax (MK VI ?) bomber, Vickers Wellington in Coastal Command livery. A woman ferry pilot explains the workings of a Supermarine Spitfire cockpit to a small boy. A Bristol Buckingham bomber makes a low-level high speed pass over assembled civilian crowds as Lord Beaverbrook looks on. Heston Airport (Middlesex) is the venue for another display, held by the Fleet Air Arm (FAA). A Sikorski R-5 (Hoverfly I ?) helicopter runs up its engine and takes off into a hover. An FAA Blackburn Firebrand torpedo fighter (Bristol Centaurus radial engine) forms part of the static display. A de Havilland Sea Hornet fighter aircraft activates its wing folding mechanism. A Supermarine Seafire fighter aircraft takes off using RATOG (commentary identifies aircraft as a Mk III but it is more probably an F Mk XVII with clear vision cockpit hood). A de Havilland Vampire Mk I (possibly the Sea Vampire prototype) jet fighter aircraft makes a low level pass to camera.

III. 'PENGUIN PARADE.' A humorous look at the activities of penguins at a zoo with much walking, swimming and feeding.

Notes

Commentary: the printed version of the English script held by the Film and Video Archive attributes the commentary to Rex Keating. This attribution is incorrect, as by October 1945 Keating was working in Palestine.
