Synopsis
I. 'WINTER SPORTS.' Panoramic footage shows skiers on the snow covered slopes of Mount Kosciusko in New South Wales (Australia). Extended footage shows civilians skiing on the slopes of the ski resort. Children fall over in the snow during ski practice. Views of the summit of Mount Kosciusko shows a party of skiers on the first stages of their down-hill journey.
II. 'DACHAU TRIALS.' Exterior footage shows the frontal elevation of a Dachau building used as a court room. A sign affixed to its wall reads "Warcrimes Branch - Judge Advocate Section- HQ Third US Army." A United States (US) military policeman stands guard at the entrance of the building armed with an M1 Garand .30-inch self-loading rifle. Interior courtroom footage shows a seated panel of US judges. The camera pans over the accused, who have numbers around their necks. Close up footage of the accused follows including Martin Weiss (No. 1), Josef Jarolin (No. 3), Wilhelm Witteler ? (No. 11), Fritz Becher ? (No. 27), Hans Aumeier ? (No. 33) and Dr Schilling (No. 15). A witness for the prosecution is sworn in by a US Army advocate, later leaving his seat to identify accused No 3, Josef Jarolin. Prince Friedrich Leopold of Prussia, a former inmate of Dachau, gives evidence (mute). The verdicts are given and sentencing begins. Martin Weiss stands to hear his sentence (death). Soundtrack records judge's pronouncement of death sentence for No. 2 (? Friedrich Ruppert). Jarolin and Schilling listen to death sentence. The process is repeated with inmates 22 (? Michael Redwitz), and 34 (? Emil Mahl). Shots of naked and emaciated corpses conclude this item.
III. 'UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE.' United Nation Organisation (UNO) General Assembly delegates take their seats in Central Hall, Westminster. Stock shot footage shows Ernest Bevin in conversation with Clement R Attlee. Brief views of the Czechoslovak and US delegation follow. Bevin walks to the podium amidst much applause from the conference floor. Bevin addresses the Assembly on the theme of the British intention to grant independence to Transjordan and the need to work for international peace and world order. Brief footage shows Eleanor Roosevelt (US delegate UNO). Mr N J O Makin of the Australian delegation warmly congratulates Bevin after his speech. Interior footage shows the first session of the UNO Security Council held at the Albert Hall in Kensington. Bevin chats with US delegate Edward R Stettinius as Russian delegate Andrei A Gromyko looks on. Camera pans over delegates who include Dr van Kleffens, Rosenzweig-Diaz, Modzelewski, Gladwyn Jebb, M Freitas-Valle, Wellington Koo, Bedawi Pasha and Vincent-Auriol. A reception is held at the Albert Hall for members of the United Nations Association.
