Synopsis

I. 'AROUND TOBRUK.' British Matilda II and Vickers light tanks manoeuvre in the desert near Tobruk. A Matilda Mk II tank drives past the camera position, moving off into desert scrub. German prisoners of war walk with their hands raised past British infantry. British Matilda Mk II tanks and Universal carriers move across desert scrubland. British infantry carrying Lee-Enfield Mk III .303-inch rifles walk past a parked Matilda II tank. British (or Australian) infantry man Bren .303-inch light machine guns and a Boys Mk I 0.55-inch anti-tank rifle. Brief footage shows destroyed Axis soft-skinned vehicles and a knocked-out German PzKpfw II tank. Italian infantry bearing white handkerchiefs surrender to British infantry. Surrendering Afrika Korps personnel carry their wounded comrades in blankets. Italian and German Army prisoners of war board a small coastal vessel for transportation to prison camps. A column of German Army prisoners under armed British escort march past the premises of "Pohoohull Brothers Jewellers" and towards the Derna Palace Hotel (Cairo). The column of German prisoners makes its way past the defensive walls of the Citadel (al Qalaa) in Cairo. Australian (?) infantry shake hands with the crew of a Matilda Mk II tank (Royal Tank Regiment).

II. 'NEWS FROM ENGLAND.' British Prime Minister Winston Spencer Churchill reviews a march past by men of the 11th Armoured Division during his "high speed" tour of North East England. Churchill is driven by Daimler armoured car past parked Valentine tanks of the 11th Armoured Division. Churchill is cheered by dock workers and civilians as he tours Newcastle docks.

III. 'FAR EAST AT WAR.' A map shows the Pacific Far East showing the extent of Japanese territorial expansion in the area. An unidentified merchant ship sails into Singapore Harbour. British reinforcements wearing pith helmets file down the gangplank of a berthed merchant ship. Japanese nationals have their possessions searched by the port authorities prior to their deportation by ship from Singapore. Japanese nationals board the berthed Japanese merchant ship Asama Maru. A Gurkha patrol armed with Lee-Enfield Mk III .303-inch rifles moves through jungle terrain. Gurkha troops set up an Ordnance smooth bore 3-inch mortar in a firing pit, others use their kukri knives to cur foliage. Panoramic footage shows Hong Kong. A junk navigates an inland waterway. Farmers till the fields. The commentary briefly outlines the history of Hong Kong under British administration, stressing the thriving nature of its commerce and its love of peace. Steel girders lie half-buried in a road forming part of the anti-tank defences of Kowloon.
