Synopsis

Rushes. An examination of the history of the British in India, largely from the point of view and experiences of Indians. Tape 13 contains interviews with Deepack Shahpuri, a descendent of the wealthy and well-connected Pandit Beni Prasad; Prince Anjam Qadr, a descendent of the last Nawab of Awadh (Oudh) who was deposed by the East India Company in 1856, resulting in the mutiny and upheaval of 1857; Neil O'Brien, who was President of the Anglo-Indian Association of India; N.R. Ray, a historian from Calcutta; Sachindra Chaudhuri, an eminent barrister and politician; P.T.Nair, historian and researcher specialising in Calcutta; Mohammed Hussain Shah, a descendent of Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore.
