Synopsis

Offical residence with organisation of servants. The Layard girls & ponies & playing. Agricultural show .Coutryside scenes with bullocks, camel as draught animals. Tented camp with boys playing (non ball ) team games. Europeans with elephants. Girls having rides then family trek with train of elephants.

Production / Donor Details: The collection was shot mainly in India between 1932 and 1942 by Austin Havelock Layard. The Layard family had held distinguished posts in Ceylon since 1803, and Mr Layard was a high ranking official in the Indian Civil Service in the Central Provences during the 1920s and 1940s, and between 1932 & 1938 was Deputy Commissioner in Delhi. In 1948 and 1949 he served in the office of the U.K. High Commission in Delhi and Calcutta.
