Synopsis

The film shows students of the Administrative Service Training Course during the 1961 census at Karaye in Kano Province at which the students trained and supervised the enumerators. Various shots of the camp at Karaye rest house where the students relax by playing scrabble. Also a trainee being taught to drive in an old pickup truck, a game of 'basketball' (with a rubber ring), and a game of hockey.

Production / Donor Details: John Smith began his career in the Colonial Service in Nigeria. He was the Course Supervisor running 1 year Administrative Training Courses for future Administrative Officers at the Institute of Administration in Zaria, Nigeria in the early 1960s. The first four films in teh collection records training courses 4 and 5. He was later Governor of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands for 5 years in the 1970s. In 2003 he became President of the Friends of the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum.
