Gill Collection: 5 Lagos Rebuilds. Nigeria 1955-61

Synopsis

Pictures Lagos in 1955-61 with its fringes of old villages and the Brazilian Quarter of the city, in the process of being superseded. The work of the Lagos Executive Development Board is shown, and some road and bridge construction and the laying of a new water supply pipe line for the city. There is film of a vast crowd on the racecourse listening to Billy Graham. The works built for the Independence celebrations of the Federation are shown, together with the arrival of Princess Alexandra to inaugurate the event, and the appearance of the capital city at that time.

Production / Donor Details: Mr Gill was a Provincial Engineer in Nigeria and the Southern Cameroons between 1951 and 1960.
