Synopsis

Colour sequences from reel 1: the Ashantehene ceremony. Crowds at large Durbar Ashanti tribal gathering. The manhandling of the "Golden Stool". The parade through the crowds of those carrying the tribal symbols of Authority. The tribal elders process amongst those carrying the badges of tribal offices. Uniformed policeman keeps an eye on matters. The display of tribesmen of their muskets who march in a file and one of whom then brandishes his ancient weapon as if to discharge it. The chiefs process under their ceremonial umbrellas ("Katamanso" in the Ashanti language, meaning "The covering of the nation"). Others walk under the shade of smaller colourful umbrellas.

Production / Donor Details: Donor's grandfather, Sir Francis Walter F Jackson was Chief Commissioner, Gold Coast (Ghana) 1934-36.
