Synopsis

Workmen constructing road and bridge over creek and half finished house. Workers with baskets on their heads walking to collect earth and carrying it back to the site; workers dumping earth from baskets on site watched by supervisor. Men with crude scaffold posing for camera. Men dragging wooden frame towards camera; bridge structure on bank and the river over which it will go. Workers and supervisor on bridge structure, carpenters planing struts, workmen digging out mud and carrying it off in baskets watched by supervisor. River and swamp; donkeys wandering past half-built house with workmen all around. Supervisor posing for camera. Construction by large gang of local men using no machinery but only manual labour of the embankment for earth dam in the countryside supervised by British colonial officer. Timber frame work of Coffer Dam under construction is checked by Colonial officer who watches workman. Team of local carpenters plane wooden planks to be used in the dam construction. Dozen or so of labourers working in gang prepare building mortar. Gang of labourers at work on half constructed house which stands alone in the flat countryside. British official whose car is parked on the adjacent mud road and has its official chauffeur standing by it is inspecting the work
