Synopsis

Tanganyika. Handwritten note in can describes scenes. Note: 'Women and Girls dancing at Mvumi'. Scenes of dancing to drum accompaniment – women drummers and dancers. Note: 'Guitar Player and Singer' / 'Pied Piper': man in western dress plays guitar and sings to group of adults and children amongst large piles of cuts wood, accompanied by man on small percussion instrument. Close up of his hands as he plays and sings; detail of chord changes. Boy singing along. The same musical group walking through field; the three men followed by the children from the previous shots. Boabab tree. Sculptor making stools and small figures of giraffes; tourist trade? (Note: 'James the woodcarver'). Note: 'Circumcision mask sequence'. Circumcision mask: square bamboo-made mask, opening leaves which are folded back from the mask's face area, masker covered in ash. Mask and assistants approach camera, and walk on past it. Mask and assistants seen approaching group of three children with cattle, standing on a path. Film ends.
